Description

Teaching students to identify the text structure of nonfiction texts helps them better comprehend information. These text structure worksheets, posters, activities, task cards, passages and assessments help students master them.

This resource gives students multiple activities to help them master the 5 different types of text structure: compare and contrast, description, problem & solution, cause and effect, and sequence.

This resource can be used in a variety of ways:

This resource provides engaging ways to help students master the types of sentences:

  • The posters included can be used during whole group lessons projected on the board and then hung up in the classroom for future reference.

  • The easy to cut flip book can be used by students during whole group to write definitions and examples for each type of text structure.

  • A cut, sort, and paste activity is included. This activity is a great option for independent work or for centers.

  • The Types of Text Structure worksheets include short passages and graphic organizers for the students to fill out. They allow practice and formal assessment opportunities.

  • Once students have a better understanding of the different types of text structure, 12 task cards can be used as a scoot activity in the classroom or as a second center activity to help them review. It also allows the teacher to informally assess students' understanding.

  • A scavenger hunt booklet gives students the opportunity to write the text structure, its definition, clue words, and to glue an example found in a magazine.
