What educators are saying

My students really enjoyed using this while watching the movie. It helped them make connections to what they read and was a great wrap up to our novel study.

Description

The following twelve-page study guide film packet is used to accompany the Robert Mulligan-directed 1962 courtroom drama "To Kill a Mockingbird" that is an adaptation of Harper Lee's novel of the same name and stars Gregory Peck. It can be used in an English or film studies classroom. The first page contains a list of cast and crew and a background and introduction on the film from Wikipedia. The second page is a page that allows viewers to jot and take down their own notes. Pages three, four, five, six, seven, eight, and nine contain comprehension questions to guide the viewer on the work's camera movement, characterization, cinematography, conflict, costume design, dialogue, editing, figurative devices, foreshadowing, inferences, irony, mise en scene, mood, motifs, movement, plot, point of view, props, set design, sound, story, symbolism, and themes. The tenth and eleventh pages contain discussion questions on the work's adaptation choices, character archetypes, characterization, costume design, dialogue, legacy, plot, setting, and themes. The twelfth page is a genre study page on coming-of-age films and what characteristics of the subgenre are evident in the film based on its subject matter, style/technique, and ideologies/morals/themes.

A multiple choice quiz that can be used as a summative assessment that pairs well with this packet, a formative assessment, is available as a separate purchase by clicking here.
