TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I've been teaching high school English and English electives for ten years. In my career, I've taught honors and general education English 7, English 8, English 9, English 10, English 11 and various film studies courses.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching style adapts to each lesson, ranging from authoritative to student-centric. Generally, I create lessons that vary from fostering small group, close reading to whole class discussions and projects. For assessments, I create critical thinking multiple choice quizzes and tests or rubric-structured projects that aren't focused solely on characterization, plot, and/or story comprehension.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

National Honors Society Teacher of the Year (school award), Optimist Club Educator of the Year (local award), and Graduation Faculty Speaker (voted by the senior class)

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Master of Arts in English, Master of Arts in Teaching, and Bachelor of Arts in English

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I was disappointed with the lack of high level, critical thinking assessments on works of literature that I found online or elsewhere. Almost all of them assessed comprehension of story; that's it. I started writing my own assessments on works I taught that require students to apply the academic terminology they were learning to works we read and watched. That's my goal as a teacher: I strive to challenge my students to high standards while keeping my grading workload reasonable. I hope you enjoy what you find.
