My degrees are in Literature and Elementary Education. I have been working in a classroom since 2007 when I began working with the AVID program in a middle school setting. I started full-time teaching in 2011 in fifth grade. I have since taught first, third, and fifth grades in both the US and China. In 2021, I started teaching at a training center and worked with students as young as three and as old as high school. That same year, I started making resources for my website. I have training in Montessori and Reggio as well as Data Teams and IPC. While I have left the classroom for now to homeschool my young daughter, I try to stay up-to-date on new educational research and constantly grow as a teacher.
I believe in hands-on learning. My goal is to encourage lifelong learners with engaging lessons incorporating all subjects around a common theme. Humans have a natural desire to learn, but when ideas are placed out of context it can be hard for kids to see their usefulness. I want kids actively participating in project-based learning units. I hope to give teachers the means to make that happen effectively. I don't like homework but I understand some schools require it so I try to account for that.
I graduated magna cum laude with distinctions in literature and education.
I was the first in my family to go to University. I graduated from UNC-Asheville with degrees in literature and elementary education. I also received a minor in humanities. I have also received extensive training in data teams and ICP. I was the IPC coordinator at my school in China. I have training in both Montessori and Reggio. I love to learn and am always teaching myself about new subjects and practicing new skills. I have a learning disability which makes spelling very difficult for me, which is ironic given my two passions in life are teaching and writing. At the start of the school year, I always liked to show kids my degree, where I graduated with honors, and my fourth-grade report card, where I received a D in English due to my poor spelling abilities.
I love animals. I have a husband and daughter. I enjoy writing, and I promise my fiction writing is much better than this biography. Check out Pendant of the Golden Rose by Rebekah Lorraine.
