I am starting my 11th year as a middle school social studies teacher in Independence, Kansas. I spent 4 years as a 7th grade Kansas History/World Geography teacher and am starting my 7th year as a 6th grade ancient civilizations teacher.
I like to use alot of hands-on, cooperative learning in my classroom. I also include lots of higher-order thinking in our class discussions and Kagan structures. I love incorporating technology into my lessons and use my Promethean board everyday. I also like a laid-back atmosphere and try to use humor whenever possible.
I have been a 2-time University of Kansas Teacher of the Week. This is a student-nomination program through KU's athletic department. Also, I have been nominated as our school's "Teacher of the Month" three times.
