I have teaching experience in both public and private school settings. I taught Art 1, Drawing and Painting and International Baccalaureate Visual Arts (IB Art) for 8 years at a large diverse public school and I currently teach Foundations Art, Digital Art, and Advanced Studio Art at a small private school. I believe that all students can be successful artists and find their individual voice through guided exploration and encouragement. I have extensive experience with English Learners, bilingual, and international students. Art can be a great class for students as they work on their language acquisition because it allows for expression and connection that is outside the bounds of language.
I am passionate about teaching students the fundamentals of observation, drawing and the elements/principles of design as well as introducing students to Art History and Contemporary Art. I also encourage students to use art as a way to investigate the world around them, visual culture and their interests. I see art as an interdisciplinary practice and love to see my students broadening their understandings of what constitutes "art" I am also very passionate about differentiation, every lesson has an entry point for beginners and the opportunity for more advanced students to push themselves.
One of my students earned a 7 and several of my students earn 6s on the IB Visual Arts Assessment.

I love to hike, garden, thrift shop and spend time with my family. I'm still a full time teacher and every resource I share has been used in my own classroom.
