Beginning Teacher Talk

I taught elementary school for 11 years both in North America and overseas, I taught ESL at the college level, and Pre-Service educators at the University of Lethbridge. My research focus for my M.Ed was in supporting beginning elementary teachers, and I am the founder of the R.E.A.D.Y. for School Academy. You can learn more at www.drlorifriesen.com. My PhD research was focused on animal-assisted literacy, and I've developed a literacy program for 1st and 2nd grade called "Dogs Help Kids Read and Succeed" with over 3,500 program graduates! In 2011, Lori was inducted into the Golden Key International Honor Society in recognition of her outstanding academic achievement and excellence. Her doctoral research, in which she explored how one class of grade 2 children experienced an animal-assisted literacy program, was awarded a SSHRC (Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada) Doctoral Fellowship, the Isaak Walton Killam Memorial Scholarship, the University of Alberta Doctoral Prize of Distinction, the Alberta Teachers’ Association Doctoral Fellowship, and the University of Alberta Ph.D. Recruitment Scholarship.
