I was happily employed for 31 years in a public school classroom (Edwards-Knox Central School in Russell, NY) and worked as an adjunct teaching college biology, chemistry, and science method courses. I was the recipient of the 2003 NABT New York State Outstanding Biology Teacher Award. I have a great appreciation and understanding of the challenges faced by both middle level and high school teachers, having worked in both areas (and multiple subjects) during my career. It is my goal to make the work of my colleagues easier by providing materials I have successfully used with actual students in the classroom at low cost using readily available materials when possible. Please feel free to browse my offerings of Biology, Chemistry, AP Biology, Physics and well as middle level science materials. Lab materials, common core reading and writing activities, completion notes, PowerPoints and academic games are just a few of the items included in these materials.
I utilized a mix of styles which varied from class to class. No two students are the same and it takes a different approach to reach each student. Structured note taking with bell ringers and closure activities, as well as group and laboratory work occurred frequently in my classes. I evaluated students frequently as research supports that short frequent evaluations help students to learn more proficiently. I also believe in the use of competitive academic games. I have extensive experience in distance learning, having taught AP Biology to several other local rural school districts in addition to my own. During my career, I had a very extensive Moodle learning platform and school website to facilitate student learning. My goal at Teacher Pay Teachers is to not just provide an educational service with materials, but to provide a service to expand on your use of these materials with any insights you may desire as to how I used them in the classroom.
