TEACHING EXPERIENCE

My areas of expertise include: * History Years 7-12 - including Ancient, Medieval and Modern Australian and World History * WWI and WWII, focusing on Holocaust studies * History Revolutions teacher and exam assessor - in particular Russian and Chinese Revolutions * Debating (especially for low literacy learners) * English and Literature Years 7-12

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe integrating subjects together to increase student engagement helps to develop skills and make relevant links to students' lives. For example - when studying the Holocaust, we are not only looking at the people, places and event from a Historians point of view, but developing our English written, reading and analysis skills at the same time. I also use technology as much as possible to reach students on a level that they understand. This year all of my students now have laptops at school and all of our curriculum is available to them 24/7 online, including help from me!

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

In 2012 I was selected to be the Chinese Revolutions expert to write the Year 12 VCE Exams for VCAA. A huge challenge and responsibility! In January 2014 I spent 3 weeks studying at the Yad Vashem International School for Holocaust Studies in Jerusalem, Israel, thanks to a study grant I was awarded by Gandel Philonthropy. It was an intense and inspiring time and I can't wait to get back in to the classroom!

I live in the South-East of Victoria Australia with my husband (also a teacher!), our 3 beautiful children, 2 cats and 1 blue-tongue lizard. We love to watch our son play football and basketball, and spend time going to the AFL to watch Carlton play on the weekends.
