As a 18-year veteran science teacher teaching chemistry, AP chemistry, and biology, I enjoy creating hands-on, supportive and engaging activities, labs and practice for students. I've served as a mentor teacher for new teachers and student teachers. The reputation of chemistry being challenging proceeds itself, but the front-loading involved pays off well and the opportunity to build problem-solving skills and confidence in our students is high.
Seeing students believe in themselves as I do in them are some of my favorite teaching moments. Breaking down complex chemistry concepts into individual steps and patterns is empowering. I've found that teaching with interactive, constructive and supportive materials not only engages students to grasp concepts they otherwise thought were too challenging but also gives the teacher time back to reflect and plan forward.
