Class Pet

I began my teaching career with 8 wonderful years in the classroom where I taught first, second, and third grade. While teaching, I took my students on many field trips to visit local sites. While doing so, I realized that the books I needed to teach them about our area didn’t exist so… I wrote and illustrated what I needed myself. When my first book, “Journey Around Cape Cod and the Islands from A to Z” was published, my students gave me a round of applause. It was the best praise I have ever received! When my daughters were born, I left the classroom but continued to take children on “field trips” through my books. There are now 10 books in the “Journey Around” series as well as over 60 books in my “Hello!” board book series that introduces younger children to the world around them. I have also created dozens of activity books for Peter Pauper Press including their best-selling “Scratch & Sketch” series. I am excited to bring my talents to the Teachers Pay Teachers platform as a way to help support other educators.

To make learning an exciting "Journey!"

One of my books, "Journey Around Boston from A to Z" was on the Boston Globe top 10 book list the summer it was published.

I have a Bachelor's Degree from Connecticut College with a major in studio art and a minor in psychology. I received a Masters in Teaching from Lesley University with certification in Elementary and Special Education. I have also taken several courses at the Rhode Island School of Design... just for fun!

My shop name, “Class Pet” is just for fun. My name is Martha Day Zschock, and I am a former classroom teacher who continues to educate children through the books that I write and illustrate. I also create fun clipart and resources to enhance the work of educators and small businesses. Wouldn’t a cat make a great class pet? I always thought so. Now that I work from home, my cat Winston often “helps” me with my art (although he likes recess and nap time best).
