30+ years experience of tutoring 1:1. My special interest is in showing students how to become more effective learners, particularly those whose performance has dipped. Previously, I've worked with students of all ages, ranging from ages 8 to 19yrs, including adults (A levels /IB). Many were/are international students who have switched countries. They realise they have ability but are missing significant amounts of knowledge.

Conversational. Relaxed, friendly and intentional in equal measure. 3-pronged approach. Mathematics as a living language, achieving fluency by mastering both spoken and written forms. Mastery of the fundamentals so that learners are properly supported and given a chance to join the dots and develop awareness of the bigger picture. Promote Independent learning by using and sharing scientifically-based effective study techniques.

I have a first-class BSc. (Hons.) from the Open University, UK and a Ph.D. in a pure maths field from the University of Southampton, U.K. Prior to that I had an English Education, at a Grammar School in the UK. I also have professional qualifications for posts I held previously..

Hey, I am Dawn, a tutor and lifelong learner. Over recent years, I have been making a study of my own students, and how to better serve them. Particularly in the wake of the pandemic and working with reluctant homechoolers.
