Elementary math is the best, ya'll! After 15 years in the classroom, I still believe teaching is not just my career, but my vocation! I am currently a math specialist + I travel throughout the region keeping teachers afloat. I have taught child development aged students (six weeks old to Pre-K), kindergarten, first, second, and fifth grades... and was an instructional coach for math and science where I mentored and coached teachers and taught science lab to grades Pre-K through sixth grade. I love being able to utilize my firsthand experience of the importance of vertical alignment in a school and curriculum. In addition to being a traveling teacher, I help keep teachers, in the classroom and at home, afloat with the diverse, rigorous resources, tips, and ideas I share!
I believe in cultivating a positive classroom culture by making students responsible for their decisions. I teach my students to show respect to themselves and others while solving their own problems as often as possible. I believe that students need to take ownership in their learning and be encouraged in their work as mathematicians. I am passionate about making the academic content accessible and comprehensible to English learners in my classrooms.
School District Distinguished Writer of the Year 2012
I have a B.S. in Elementary Education and a M.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies focusing on business, history, and political sciences which led me to love writing. (I think the 200+ page thesis paper put me over the edge!) I have authored a southwest history book and several educational articles on how English learners thrive in my math classroom due to the use of sheltered and scaffolded instruction. During the pandemic, I earned a M.A. in Curriculum & Instruction, Math Specialist. I use my specialized training to create diverse + rigorous math resources.
I am honored that you stopped by my store to check it out! From the bottom of my Texas heart, thank you.
