TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have worked in the California public school system for 24 years. I have worked as an elementary school teacher, high school teacher and elementary school principal. At the high school level, I have taught World History, US History, Civics and Economics. I have also worked as a part time lecturer at the University of California, Irvine. I have taught classes in Educational Technology and Instructional Design to undergraduates, pre-service teachers and master's students. Finally, I spent the last four years working as an adjunct educational technology professor in the Online Masters in Educational Technology Program at Cal State Fullerton.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching style has several components. First, I believe learning should be fun! I believe a teacher must always have great enthusiasm in their subject to engage their students. Second, I believe in a constructivist teaching style in which the teacher is a facilitator and the students are active learners. Educational activities should be personally relevant to students in order to achieve deep and conceptual understanding of material. Third, regardless if my students are fifth graders, high school sophomores or master's level students, they all need scaffolding. Students are pushed at their zone of proximal development and with the appropriate scaffolding, they can achieve the learning goals you have set for them. Finally, i believe strongly in the power of positive reinforcement and seeing students as more than just a number. Regardless of their age, students know if you care about them or if this is just a job you show up for.
