I have a decade of experience teaching English and writing at the middle, high school, and college levels. As a prior graduate in English rhetoric, I have written in various capacities, from authoring a book about a nature preserve to writing digital content for more than 40 businesses and nonprofits. As a former journalist, one of my feature reports earned "Feature Article of the Year" for Heart publications nationwide.
My teaching style includes anything that will engage students, moving them forward as critical thinkers and global citizens. I aim to connect their learning to other disciplines and the larger world. The formats I use include: ⭐Socratic Seminar - Popcorn and Fishbowl models, student-led and anchored with leveled questions; ⭐Inquiry-based learning; ⭐Stations, including technology (Kahoot!, Schoology, Videos), discussions, manipulatives, acting, drawing and diagramming, writing, and charades; ⭐Interactive Notebooks; ⭐Minilessons and Writing Workshops; ⭐Notice & Note Fiction & Nonfiction Signposts; ⭐Anchor Charts; ⭐Jigsaws; ⭐Graphic Organizers; ⭐Writing Portfolios; ⭐Think-Pair-Share & small group discussions; ⭐The 20% Project.
