TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Award-winning educator in high-needs urban high school -turned American Literature teacher and schoolwide instructional coach in a Catholic High School with a faculty of 100+. ASCD Emerging Leader Class of 2017. Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Teacher Advisory Council Member 2016-2018. Arlington Leadership Center 40 Under 40 Awardee, Class of 2017. Published author with Dave Burgess Consulting (2019) and national speaker. In less than two years in one of Maryland's lowest-performing public high schools, my high-energy, hands-on approach to student-centered classroom design catapulted my classes' High School Assessment scores to the highest across all subjects in the building, and moved our school to the second-highest scoring in the entire county. In my current role, I now teach two English classes and spend the rest of the day working with teachers across all disciplines and oversee our school's professional development program. Duties include: + Oversight of schoolwide Instructional Rounds twice annually + Lead facilitator of ongoing #ObserveMe peer-to-peer network of 40+ classrooms + One-on-one instructional coaching with teachers in every department + Curriculum writing in humanities and STEM + Research and support in BYOD and one-to-one device integration + 21st century literacy and research standards across all content areas + Individual teacher support with lesson planning and unit design. Basically, I'm like a personal trainer for teachers.

MY TEACHING STYLE

High-impact, high-enthusiasm, and high expectations! Leading with passion and excitement leads to remarkable levels of student engagement. Blending gamification and innovative student-centered lesson design with strategic use of instructional technology in the classroom to keep lessons lively and interactive.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I spent five years in social media before making the jump to full-time teaching, and I've implemented a great deal of web-based technologies into my classrooms to meet the changing needs of the digital learner. When I'm not teaching, I run marathons and write screenplays. And devour any and all information related to school reform, 21st century teaching and learning, and education policy issues. Thanks for checking out my store!
