I have been teaching for nine years in varying settings from middle school to college. Each of these experiences has provided me insight into building stronger lessons and resources to ensure our students are successful regardless of the circumstances.
I love stepping aside while helping guide students to discovering new information and building critical thinking skills. Hands-on, project-based, and problem-based are all phrases that can be used to describe my teaching style.
In 2017, I was named the Alabama History Teacher of the Year and a top 10 finalist for National History Teacher of the Year. I have been a nominee for teacher of the year five years in my ten-year career as well as a nominee for innovative teacher of the year. My utilization of technology in the classroom was recognized by the state of Alabama as I was a nominee for the Chiquita Marbury Technology Innovation Award (high school teacher category). I have presented numerous presentations on the state and national level for both social studies education as well as incorporating technology into the classroom.
I attended Auburn University for my undergraduate, master's (a few courses at Georgetown University as part of the James Madison Fellowship), and doctorate degrees in social studies education.
