I love a good color-by-number review. It's relaxing to make the key, the kids enjoy the mind-numbing activity, and they're surprisingly easy to grade! This review is based on TEKS for STAAR, so it includes content from 1877 (Gilded Age) to 2016. 2

Cold War political cartoons are some of the best. They cover so many topics, and use tons of metaphors to unpack with your students. Like my other assignments of this kind, I also encourage students to create their own political cartoon at the end.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

As of 2024, I have taught history in Texas for four years, in U.S. History, World History, and AP World History. I have a passion for all social studies, and in addition to my history work, I enjoy designing curricula for geography, government, and Texas History.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Games-based learning, people-centric history, using art as a process and outcome of learning, SEL, roleplay.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I was awarded First Year Educator of the Year at my campus in 2022.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I earned my BA in History from Texas Tech University in 2018, and my Texas teaching certification from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2021. I am certified in 7-12 Social Studies and 7-12 History.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am a writer on the side, and have studied literature, mythology, and creative writing for fun. While not certified in these areas, I also enjoy creating lessons and ideas for English 7-12. Who knows--I might be certified in it one day, anyway. :)
