I earned my teaching degree in December of 1999. I started my teaching career as a first grade teacher in my hometown school district. I taught both first grade and Title I Reading, until I changed school districts. Since then, I have taught Kindergarten, fourth grade, and am currently the elementary library teacher and instructional coach.
As a library teacher, I conduct read alouds with PreK to fifth grade students. This fosters many different discussions in the classroom. I love getting students to think about children's literature and connecting it to their own lives and experiences. Children's books are an excellent place to start for teaching everything from content area material to social emotional wellness. There is a book for everything!
I am a Level 2 Google Certified educator.
I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education in 1999 from Southern Illinois University. I later earned my Master's in Elementary Reading and Literacy from Walden University. Most recently, I participated in a two year Instructional Coaching training program to become one of the instructional coaches in a pilot project at my District.
My mom is a retired teacher, so I have always been immersed in the field of education. Becoming a teacher always appealed to me and was a natural course for me to take. I live in a small, rural town and am married to my high school sweetheart. We have two children (ages 18 and 20). I am very proud that both of my children are currently working on their own teaching degrees, so the family legacy continues.
