I have taught for 27 years as a special education teacher and have been the Dyslexic Specialist on my campus for the past 10 years. This year, I left special education to move into a first grade classroom. As a special ed teacher, I did not see the students until they were so far behind, it would be almost impossible to provide enough remediation to get them back up to grade level. It is my hope that by catching them early, perhaps I through earlyintervention, I can prevent some of the special ed referrals later on... only time will tell, but I am loving first grade!
Students with learning difficulties most often learn best with hands on activities and materials that provide visual cues. They tend to need more time to review, so many of my activities and strategies are centered around providing the needed review, but providing the review in several different venues so the students aren't bored out of their brains!

Certified in Elementary Ed, Special Ed and ESL. Masters in Special Education. Campus Dyslexic Specialist for 10 years.
I come from a family of teachers. My husband and I teach at the same school. I have 3 sons, 2 of whom are ADHD, so I know how it feels to try to get a wiggly boy to sit and do homework!
