¡Hola! I'm a Spanish teacher at a magnet high school in Dallas, Texas. I learned Spanish to communicate with my Dominican childhood best friend... and to understand Selena's music, which she introduced me to. I have a lifelong love of literature and cultures and I teach through a communicative approach based on real-world scenarios. I've learned that if I'm not excited about what I'm teaching, then kids probably won't be either, so I try to make the lesson fun for all of us. If I'm teaching for 6-8 hours a day, I should at least get something out of it, no? :)
My teaching style is a combination of demonstrator and facilitator. I lecture mostly grammar, demonstrate communicative activities, and I allow time for peer interaction. Language must be learned through practice, so that's essential. Practice makes proficient. :)
