TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have twenty-eight years experience as a high school English teacher in New Jersey. I have taught many different courses and a wide range of student levels. Courses include English Literature, American Literature, Creative Writing, and Public Speaking, and both College Preparatory and Honors freshmen, sophomores and seniors. If you have questions or concerns about any of my products, please feel free to email me at lonniejonestaylor@gmail.com.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I like class discussions and hearing what the students have to say about reading and literature. One on one proofreading is an extremely important part of the writing process, but almost impossible to do. A sense of humor is a must in my classroom. I believe in personal accountability, and I do not believe in accommodating rudeness, bad behavior or excuses.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Teacher of the Year at Voorhees High School, Glen Gardner, New Jersey 1998, National Endowment for Humanities Scholarship at Princeton University, 1984.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I was raised in rural Hunterdon County, New Jersey and went to North Hunterdon Regional High School. I received a BA in English from Ricker College in Maine and went on to get my teaching certificate in English from The College of New Jersey. I earned a Masters in Education from East Stroudsburg University.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

In recent years I have become very concerned with the federal government's increasing involvement in education with mandated testing. The result is more students being exempted from passing or even taking the benchmark exams in an effort for schools to retain funds. It is merely another example of "The Emperor's New Clothes." Students reading on the 5th grade level should not be placed in a College Prep Junior American Lit. class. An army of Special Ed in-class support teachers will not raise a student's reading level, but a work ethic and natural consequences will.
