TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I've never been able to stick with the textbook...! I have 20+ years of teaching experience including teaching mathematics to middle school and high school students, as well as serving as a "Math Coach/Specialist", working with hundreds of students and their teachers in one of Pennsylvania's largest districts. I transitioned to Austin, Texas, where I am teaching 8th grade Pre-Algebra and Algebra I in a 1:1 iPad classroom. Check out my blog for up-to-date classroom happenings! mathycathy.com/blog

MY TEACHING STYLE

My high-energy teaching style and desire to keep all students engaged ensures variety in instructional techniques and resources. The resources I create evolve from my students' specific needs and my desire to keep them engaged and excited about mathematics! I hope you see this through the variety of resources I have posted here at TPT!

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I earned my Master of Science in Education with a 4.0 average in the area of Classroom Technology. I have been trained in the Success For All Foundation's "Power Teaching"! I am a proud member of the Apple Distinguished Educator Class of 2013. I recently published 20 interactive middle school math lessons with Nearpod, an amazing app!

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I received my Bachelor of Science in Education at Clarion University of Pennsylvania, majoring in Secondary Education/Mathematics. I received my Master of Science in Education from Wilkes University in Classroom Technology.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Middle school mathematics is what I most love to teach! I started my teaching career working exclusively with 7th graders for 6 years. I also taught SAT Preparation courses through our local Penn State University, and taught potential first-generation college students still in high school in a Saturday and summer program through Penn State as well. I did quite a bit of private math tutoring with students from grades 6 through 12 over the years. After 3 years as a stay-at-home-mom, I returned to full-time teaching as a math coach/specialist for 3 years, working with teachers and students in 3 middle schools in one of Pennsylvania's largest school districts. I moved to Austin, Texas and currently teach 6th, 7th, and 8th graders in my own classroom again. I admit it.... I can't "just" use the textbook! From the start of my career, I have created my own resources based on student need, student engagement, and student motivation, and have shared many of these successful creations here on TPT. Enjoy!
