Hi, I'm Katie! I have taught high school English in Thunder Bay, Ontario at an Indigenous private secondary school for 16 years. I have taught English in grades 9-12, as well as The Writer's Craft, English Media Studies, and The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course. I have also worked as a curriculum writer, educational consultant and school literacy lead.
I aspire to create a welcoming and inclusive classroom that promotes a growth mindset. I structure my lessons with rigor and creativity in mind, while scaffolding steps for students to move beyond teacher-led instruction to their own student-led inquiry.
I have received my Reading Specialist additional qualification through Lakehead University, Alternative Education additional qualification through Nipissing University, and Special Education, Part 1 additional qualification through Lakehead University.
I received my Honours Bachelor of Arts in concurrence with my Bachelor of Education degree from Lakehead University
My store name is a nod to my love of cafe mochas, which I usually have in hand while teaching, and for my Canadian heritage, as we use "marks" instead of "grades"
