TEACHING EXPERIENCE

After teaching for 29 years in middle school, I've decided that's the place for me! I taught for ten years in the Orange County (Florida) Public School system at primarily the sixth-grade level. During that time I taught Language Arts, remedial reading, social studies, and exceptional student education (aka special education). Then for 6 years, I taught sixth-grade Math, Language Arts, and Social Studies to sixth graders in a private, independent school. Now I am back in public school and am teaching Middle School Language Arts to students with and without Special Needs.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My style embodies all manners of creativity. I use any medium possible to share information and knowledge in new ways. This includes art, music, role-playing, and anything active. I am also a big fan of the Responsive Classroom ways of teaching. These methods draw students into a community and helps them learn the curriculum in a safe, nurturing environment. My colleagues call me the "Kum-by-yah" teacher and I'm ok with that. :)

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I was named teacher of the year in 2007.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from SUNY Geneseo. Bachelor of Art in English from SUNY Geneseo. Master of Education from Rollins College.
