TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I took an indirect path to the classroom. And for the first 5 years in the there I fought my love for it. It wasn’t until a trip to Africa and saw with my own eyes the power of education. Came back determined to teach and to find other ways to be able to afford my passion.

I originally found my home in a classroom in 1999. Initially, I thought I was meant to mold the minds of high schoolers, but I have since found where the party begins- middle school. I have taught a little bit of everything: World Cultures, Texas history (yes it is a real subject), US history, Economics, Government and World History.

For more on my beginnings Why I am still a teacher

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching style is constantly evolving depending on what I am reading or the latest cool training that I receive. Check out, and start learning with my Book Reviews

What it looks like?

I have always been most comfortable with my students working in peer teams solving a problem or collaborating on a project together. There are so many unintended lessons that they can learn from each other when they are allowed to discuss and solve.

Pedagogy Passions

  1. Lately, my teaching has undergone a transformation into the PBL model. I use BIE as my guide.
  2. Fair isn't Always Equal:Assessing & Grading in the Differentiated Classroom made me angry and messed with my head but did change my teaching.
  3. Thinking Maps are life and are my favorite tool for teaching students to use process skills
  4. Kegan Strategies- are my old school grouping strategies that I like to throw in and use when I need to mix it all up.
