I began teaching at Vanderlyn Elementary School in 2011. I taught first grade for three years and then switched to 3rd grade. In 2016, I transferred to Woodstock Elementary School in Cherokee County, Georgia. This will be my 4th year teaching 3rd grade! During my career,I have had the privilege of serving on the school council and STEM committee. I was also part of the Teacher Keys Evaluation System State Pilot program. I have also served as lead teacher, mentored new teachers, and I am in charge of the yearbook.
Both of my parents are music teachers, so I have a strong passion for integrating fine arts into the general curriculum. I also work to design innovative, hands on learning experiences in which the students use our Active Promethean Board, Apple Mac Lab, Science Lab, and IPADS during daily lessons. I strive to provide differentiated remediation and enrichment during small group instruction so that I am meeting all student needs. This year, I will be using the state-mandated curriculum to guide my instruction. Common Core State Standards will be used for Reading Language Arts Instruction and Georgia Performance Standards will be used for Social Studies. These standards provide a consistent framework to prepare students for success in college and/or the 21st century workplace. The standards are designed to help your child develop higher order thinking skills, make real world connections to concepts, and the standards promote student centered learning. You can access the standards at www.corestandards.org and https://www.georgiastandards.org. I will have high expectations for my students as they work to master the standards, however I also have high expectations for my teaching. I plan to include many opportunities for family and community members to be involved in learning experiences through out the year.

I graduated from Georgia College and State University in May 2011 with a degree in Early Childhood Education. During my junior year of college, I completed seven-week field experiences in four different elementary grade levels. My senior year, I completed a yearlong internship in a fourth grade classroom in which I assumed all duties as teacher. I also worked as an intern at the Professional Association of Georgia Educators Foundation where I had opportunities to study ethical issues in education, meet the national teacher of the year, and speak to high school students about majoring in education. The Professional Association of Georgia Educators even created a documentary style podcast about my experience as an education student at Georgia College and State University! Additionally, I served as the elected president of the GCSU Student Georgia Association on Young Children chapter in which I led service learning and professional development opportunities for my peers. I completed my gifted certification in 2014. I finished my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 2016!
