TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught all grade levels pre-k through grade 12. Most of my experience is at the second to fifth grade levels in language arts. I am currently the Reading Instructional Specialist overseeing and creating the reading program for grades 2-5. I also teach struggling readers grades 2-5 to bring them up to grade level.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am a data driven teacher. I use data to determine what each student needs to focus on to be successful in reading. I then create strategies to differentiate instruction for the students at my school.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I am the Reading Instructional Specialist in charge of creating the reading program at my school. Since beginning my position at a Title 1 school it has gone from a near low preforming school to a nationally recognized Blue Ribbon School and one of four model schools for the Department of Education. I am a Golden Apple Award winner for making a difference. I was the teacher of the year in my elementary school while teaching third grade.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I am a graduate of the University of Houston.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am an Instructional Specialist in charge of the entire reading program at a Title 1 school that has the following honors: 2009 - 2012 TEA Exemplary School Rating 2012 - National Blue Ribbon School and National Blue Ribbon Profile School 2013 - Three TEA Distinction Designations 2013 - Gold Ribbon School 2014 - Six TEA Distinction Designations 2014 - TEA Rewards School for High Academic Performance. My school was also selected as one of four model schools in the nation by the Department of Education. In the three years prior to me coming on board with a new administration the school had an average of 67% passing in reading on the Texas state’s TAKS exam. We transformed a low performing school into a top-rated school through programs that are all “homegrown.” Since starting there 8 years ago, we have grown our student results tremendously. The first four years our scores on the TAKS exam were 91%, 98%, 98%, and 100%. Three years ago the state changed the exam to the new STAAR test. We were still able to rise to the occasion on the more rigorous test with a 92%, 96% and 97% percent passing rate. I have actively lead my school from one of the lowest performing schools to one of the highest performing schools in reading by using the materials in this book. These materials have taken years to develop in order to optimize every second I have to work with a child. Through these materials your students will grow and help them show their abilities on their state exams. I know that if you take these resources and implement them into your classroom you will see the great results that we have seen at my school!
