Over 10 years teaching middle school-aged students at a Catholic school in the Archdiocese of Seattle. The majority of that experience was teaching Middle School Religion. Earned a Catechetical Certification from the Archdiocese of Seattle. Developed Religion lessons for all-school "Family" meetings with multiple age groups of students. I also spent a school year "road-schooling" my own children who were in 1st and 2nd grade at the time. It was a wonderful chance to work with primary-aged learners and understand better how they "tick". We traveled from Washington state to Alabama and I was able to tailor the curriculum to the areas we were visiting. One of the many highlights was attending Mass at different churches all over the country and visiting historic southwestern missions.
I believe it is important for children and adolescents to have a solid "head" knowledge of their faith, as well as a "heart" knowledge. I try to incorporate both into my Religion assignments and activities. I also believe that students should have a solid faith foundation and know the basic facts of the Catholic faith. This foundation is their "roots" and from these roots their faith and love of God continues to grow and bloom.
