20+ years in the classroom! Where has the time gone?? :( Had to retire due to Disability, a flare of my rare autoimmune disease knocked me down and I'm still trying to get back up consistently. I love an active learning environment! I love it when the kids can't wait to come to my class everyday! I love hands-on ActionLABs in TEAMS or Partners! Kids learn by DOING best. I think GAMEs are a great way to study and learn while also having FUN and getting that natural competitive nature to work in academics! My Units have several ActionLABs, at least 2, usually 3 or 4, and a few SORTs or GAMES, including my Vocab MatchUP Race and Cards that the students look forward to every week. I always have a Choice BOARD going for every content SuperSET or 2-3 weeks. They help with Differentiation, Vocabulary development, and are very STEAM for my creative and high level kiddos. I have developed a NO PAPERS CLASSROOM, which only benefits the kids, as they are completely responsible for their grade.I will not allow them to fail, either. They must correct TESTs for half-the-points-back and show their PROOF for credit. This way, they learn from their mistakes-- which is what we want anyway, right? They'll see those questions, or similar ones, again on Benchmarks and End of Year TESTs and must be prepared! This attacks what they do not know head-on. Then, they will prepare by making a QandA style GAME from the Study Guide I give them that has sample ASSESSMENT style questions on them. We must teach them to study before they get to High School and have no clue! I love getting kids excited for Science and seeing them grow up and attend our District's Science Academies in High School-- or seeing them being well-adjusted and successful in whatever they choose, but remember that learning can be AWESOME--- from my class, of course! I feel it my duty to help rally the next generation of Scientists in America, and even if they don't choose it as a career, they have a life-long love of curiosity and asking questions--just as Einstein did. Check out TSTA.org for ways to help prepare our kiddos for the future! Science ROCKS-- hopefully you find--with Smalley! --AND YOU! I promise my products will help you---ROCK THE SCIENCE IN YOUR CLASSROOM!
