TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have 35 years of experience teaching 3rd through 6th grade. I have been a math interventionist and am trained in Math Add+Vantage principles. My specialty is in teaching the standards by applying skills through creative expression. I retired in 2018 and served as a substitute teacher until I found a WONDERFUL school and decided to return to the classroom. I am currently teaching math and science to two fourth grade classes. In my spare time I develop my teaching ideas to offer in my Teachers Pay Teachers store.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Given my years of experience, I tend to analyze adopted programs and revise them based on what I know works. I make most of my own materials and find ways to help students gain and retain knowledge through creative means. I believe all students are capable of completing what are considered enrichment activities, and when motivated to challenge themselves, every student can succeed and enjoy what learning has to offer.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I was honored as my school's Teacher of the Year the first year I was a math interventionist. I was also awarded the "Technology Champion" for the work I did to develop a wide variety of technology-related lessons and the initiative I took to learn how to create Smart Board lessons.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have a bachelor of science degree in elementary education and a masters degree in curriculum and instruction. Math is my second teaching field, and I earned a visual arts endorsement, not through coursework, but through independent study.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am married to a very loving, supportive husband and have two kids and one step-son who are recent college graduates now living on their own. I love hiking and camping and enjoy taking part in artistic endeavors. I love to dance and try to keep in shape as I age through Zumba and strengthening workouts. I have two completely spoiled dogs and love exploring nature with my fur babies and my husband.
