I have taught seventeen years in a Central Alabama elementary school and have written hundreds of EduPop study songs, a few commercial jingles, a school song, and two radio show themes.
I'm also a husband and a father of two incredible little boys and a little girl!
My favorite teaching tool is music, but I also draw comics and write skits.
I've been named "Stellar Teacher" five times by the Space Day Foundation sponsored by NASA and Lockheed Martin. Also, I was named a 2008-2009 NAIS "Teacher of the Future".
I have a B.S. degree from Freed-Hardeman University and a Master's degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Research suggests that music can be an invaluable tool for teaching and learning. Since its first publication in 1983, Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences has convinced educators all over the world to open their minds to affecting the "musical-rhythmic intelligence." Using music to teach specific lessons in and out of the classroom is a relatively new tool, but it is quickly growing support especially in the conceptual age. Researchers have proven that music is a powerful motivational tool that increases students' attention spans. Many believe that it increases the retention of content as well. The idea isn't new to me. I grew up watching Sesame Street, and singing Bible verses in Sunday school.
