TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I taught third and fourth grade for twelve years and learned that many nine and ten-year-olds have not only lots of spunk and energy, but a great sense of humor! I was lucky enough to teach two cycles of a third to fourth grade loop. I was a self-contained classroom and taught all subject areas. My passion for both literature and burgeoning technology sent me in pursuit of a degree as a school librarian. I have been working as a school library media specialist for the last five years in a PreK to grade 5 elementary school. I have recently discovered the amazing world of educators sharing their bountiful ideas, lessons, worksheets, and units on websites like Teachers Pay Teachers. As a former teacher, and current library media specialist, I was thrilled with the idea of finding new materials created by other teachers and sharing some of my materials with other librarians. So, if you happen to stumble upon my site, send your librarian here. I hope to have much to share, but I also have much to learn.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am a very "unquiet" librarian!! My library is a constant barrage of kids, laughter, questions, answers, gaming, computer use, and of course, BOOKS! I believe that students learn best by doing and answering their own questions. I also firmly believe that today's librarian needs to be aware of the recent shift in education. I refer to the Common Core Standards daily and have tweaked many of my existing lessons to better align with them.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Ahh ... if only I had something impressive and nationally recognized to list here! Sadly, I don't. However, I have had a few little ones dub me "The Best Liberrian Ever", been told that I am "pretty cool" and been referred to the as that "awesome book lady." No, not renown honors, but I would take them over a plaque any day.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I received my high school diploma from a small school in upstate New York, my Education Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Potsdam State University, and my Library Media Specialist Master's Degree from Mansfield University.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Not only do I have the best job in school, but I have the best family at home! I am married to a great guy, one who is pretty patient with my love affair with all things techie. Although my two kids have left me with an empty nest, they have turned into some pretty great people!
