I have 36 years of teaching experience and although I have taught several different subjects, the bulk of my experience is in teaching physical science to 7th & 8th graders and physics to 9th graders.
I prefer hands-on activities to spark interest - my favorite question from students is "why does that happen?" I want my students to talk to each other about what they are learning - and even argue about what they are seeing or what they believe is happening. I believe that humans learn more when they are relaxed and are able to laugh every once in a while. My classroom tends to be noisy and engaged during exploration - although as an introverted learner myself I recognize the need for internal processing so I also build in quiet learning time. :)
