Passionate about incorporating cultural and academic differences into my curriculum, I am in my first year of teaching 3rd grade. Prior to being in my own classroom, I student taught in 2nd grade, 3rd grade, and 5th grade settings. I am ELL/TESOL endorsed and a member of my school's ELL committee. Although I haven't been teaching for long, the dynamics of my class (33% 1-2 grades below grade-level, 34% on grade-level, 33% above grade-level) have caused me to experience a sharp learning curve that has put me ahead of many teachers with similar experience levels. However, I have always loved a good challenge and I put my heart and soul into my teaching each day!
I am a big believer in the importance of validating the skills, backgrounds, and beliefs of all students in classroom in order for them to succeed. I also always try to put myself in the position of my students, asking myself, "What did I need at their age to understand this concept or to be engaged in learning?" or "How can I explain this in a way that would make sense to a third grader?" I love incorporating as many modalities as possible into my lessons, keeping the learning differences of my students in mind at all times.
