Teacher: Special education (Grades K-5) for 17 years in NYC. Specialty: Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADD/ADHD, and Mild to Severe Disabilities.
Student Centered, Therapeutic, Participatory & Collaborative. I used the TEACCH approach and methodology to teach my students on the spectrum. This approach focuses on the "culture of autism" and is based on cognitive-social learning theory. A core value in this approach is appreciating and valuing the unique strengths in every child.
My greatest honors are when I witness a child acquiring a new skill and experiencing that 'aha' moment, when a family's home life improves due to that skill, and when a child invites me into their world and I'm able to make a positive impact.
