TEACHING EXPERIENCE

For 11+ years I have been teaching students from grades 7-12, primarily middle school, incorporating Drama in English, History, health, along with teaching Drama as well! Through the years, I’ve learned that students love Drama. I’ve been able to reach a lot of students through this art form, whether in the drama class, or core subject. I’ve always taught in a K-12 school (two different ones!), which gives me an appreciation and understanding for multiple ages. Often my students are paired up with younger buddies for various activities, and I always opt for dramatic activities like reader’s theatre! I have a passion for history, literacy and theatre. I’ve directed several productions through school and my local church including The Secret Garden and A Christmas Carol.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I love incorporating the arts and I take a multi-disciplinary approach to instruction. I believe drama is a fantastic method for involving students in their learning in a hands-on and exciting way. There is lots of activity in my classroom, with much student-led type learning experiences. I love to find ways to blend literacy, history and drama! These are my loves! What better way to understand and empathize with Canadian residential school survivors? What better way to make Shel Silverstein’s The Giving Tree come alive? Through theatre!
