A Service Learning Project: Give Back to your Community
An open (but well guided) project that gets kids thinking and giving back. Great to use during a unit on civics and government. I had great success with this project in my classroom. This is a handout that includes a description of the project, ideas, a simple rubric, and a place for students to write their proposals and for you, the teacher, to approve of before they begin.

History & Criminal Justice: Human Rights & Music Project
Students compare classic songs and determine the human right issue that is present in both songs. Students have an opportunity by creating their own lyrics for the songs integrating the human rights issue and prepare coordinating posters. Which Political Party Are You?
This activity helps students determine their political party affiliation without knowing it! There are 11 issues with 2 stances each (1 Republican and 1 Democratic). There is no indication as to which stance aligns with which political party. Students receive a +1 for a Republican stance and a -1 for a Democratic stance. The closer they are to +11, the more conservative they are. The closer they are to 0, the more moderate they are, and so on.
