The Ultimate Paper Airplane STEAM Project + Escape Room: 10 Day Challenge

Every year since I started teaching, I've done a paper airplane contest. When I first started around 12 years ago, it was a quick contest that lasted just an afternoon. Gradually, as my experience as an educator grew, this project began to grow into what it is today... A 10 day cross-curricular mega project! I always say that student engagement is the key to learning, and I can guarantee that your students will be engaged during these activities! They will be measuring, graphing, reading, analyz

Seljan Science
I created this assignment to use as an introductory lab when starting the motion unit of my 9th grade physical science class. It could also be a good way to review prior to a motion unit in a higher level physics class. It covers basic measurements of distance and time, and has students use those measurements to find speed using a line graph. It also reviews the concepts of accuracy and precision. There is a CER section at the end.It is a simple lab that can be performed anywhere there is room.

Students use precise metric measurements when investigating the scientific question posed by Leonardo da Vinci's drawing "The Vitruvian Man" back in 1490. Does our arm span lengths equal our heights? There are limited materials needed for this lab: meter sticks, measuring tapes, and a device. A google slides presentation is provided with speaker notes and suggestions, a youtube video link, google sheets activity on making a scatter plot graph, and student examples. This is a perfect way to practice measurement skills with students learning virtually. In school we would normally use rulers and meter sticks to measure items around the room. This option provides students with an opportunity to measure common items in their home using measuring tools they would already own. The document provides: a list and pictures of possible measuring toolsa brief explanation about measuring tricks like using your hand or a dollar bills that can be used as measuring tool
