This is a great introductory activity to do in a law class or even a civics class. Students have to consider how they would organize a large group of people stranded on a deserted island. They must think about what type of leadership is needed and what kinds of laws would be created. Students are asked to write their ideas in several paragraphs. I found that it gave me good insight into my students' writing abilities, which is very useful at the beginning of a course!
