Teacher Writing Rubrics
Once students have turned in their writing, use these rubrics to assess their work. There are 4 different rubrics based on the level of your students. Describe to students about the word “Quality” and how to achieve it through their writing (based on rubric). Student Writing Rubrics
Students can edit their own work by using these rubrics throughout the year. Students look at 4 components of their writing and draw a part of a smiley face for each correct component. Once students have drawn a smiley face, they then know that their work is complete, or has been edited. Either print a copy for each writing assignment students complete, or laminate a copy for students to use repeatedly. Students can also edit each others' work by using these rubrics.

A 5 Star Writing Rubric will help early writers accomplish writing goals in achievable chunks. There are 3 Checklists (Checklist #1, #2, and #3) to progressively meet trimester goals.
