I am an 11th year Special Education Teacher for K-5th grade students with autism and multiple disabilities in a New York City public school. I love creating teaching materials and adapting instruction for this population.
I love the creativity involved when I adapt my instruction for my students. I create simplified, adapted texts for students. I also use a variety of visuals, musical toys, and tactile objects with my students. I use big and colorful visuals to help my students engage better with the material. I like using interactive musical toys that relate to the subject matter that I teach. I also use a variety of tactile objects so that students can explore and link classroom instruction to real, everyday things. :)
