I've been teaching for 15 years in highly competitive high schools. I've taught levels 1-4 Honors of Spanish.
I run a highly collaborative classroom, with students doing a lot of work in pairs and groups of 4. I believe in total participation - focusing on all students being engaged in the classroom. I follow my books fairly closely and believe in students being able to go back to the text as a point of reference. I explain grammar as much as possible, breaking complex ideas down for the students. Lots of practice and time on task are the keys to mastering material. I also provide a variety of assessment strategies for students to demonstrate their knowledge. I try to engage all students with a variety of modalities and also by making the class fun with music and silliness.
