TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching for 14 years as a middle school math and science teacher, mainly in 8th grade science. I absolutely love middle school science! Most of my experience has been in urban settings and I wouldnt have it any other way. During summers I teach a science summer camp for 5-7 year olds.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I teach through example. In science, I believe in making connections that the students can relate to and giving them the experience needed to make those connections. I am mainly activity based with critical thinking thrown in there. I love to ask the question WHY? Recently I have been bitten by the notebooking bug and have been pleased with the outcome. Our notebooks are filled with foldables and activities and it is exciting to see how the students really love them and take ownership in them.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have been granted two $5000 grants to benefit my school/department. One grant was used to send the teachers in my department to the National Science Teacher Association (NSTA) national convention as professional development. The second grant was used to obtain a set of 10 iPads for the school.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I attended the University of Texas -- San Antonio and received a BBA in Accounting. I spent the first 6 years of my professional career as an accountant. My true calling was science so I went back to school and received my Master's in K-12 Science Education and began teaching. Recently I attended St. Mary's University to get my Master's in Educational Leadership

I have been married to my best friend for the past 24 years. We have two handsome boys and I LOVE Teaching. I came into it late but I love every minute of it!
