TEACHING EXPERIENCE

For the last nine years, I have been teaching English Language Arts and Mythology in Oklahoma. I am highly organized and don't like when worksheets, activities, or other pre-made lesson plans don't fit with what I want to teach my students, so I end up making many of my own. .

MY TEACHING STYLE

I revel in group work and fun. I say that I am a middle school teacher trapped in a high school teacher's body. We are getting up and moving around, working in groups, making predictions, sharing our thoughts and feelings, and interacting with literature in new ways. I have a history minor, so many of my units spend time analyzing the historical context of the literature that we read. Literature and history affect each other directly and I believe it's important for students to see that impact.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have a bachelor's degree in English Education and minors in Creative Writing and History. I am certified to teach ELA, but not history (I never took the test). I have been and worked with student leaders all through high school, college, and my professional career.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am a travel-hungry young teacher who believes in the educational power of creativity and expression as well as understanding the impact that students have on each other, their school, their community, and the world. I love world literature because I can bring the world to my students. They can learn about the Russian revolution, genocide in Africa, cultural revolution in France, without having to leave the classroom.
