For the Love of Language

I have worked as a Kindergarten and First Grade English-as-a-New-Language (ENL) teacher for 4 years in my current school district. I also worked as a private ENL tutor in grades K-12 and adult education. Therefore I have a WIDE range experience working with ENL students of many ages. However, most of my products are geared to primary students and building their vocabulary for speaking, listening, reading, and writing.

I believe teachers are guides -- we cannot force our students to learn however, we can bring the knowledge to them and present it in engaging and fun ways and *HOPE* that they will choose to learn it. I commonly use the SIOP model in my language classroom and the whole language approach to language learning. I work mostly in small groups for 15-20 minute increments so my activities are quick and gradually release control of content to the students. I teach language through content so my activities span Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies and the 4 modalities of language (reading, writing, speaking, & listening).

I am also the proud mom of two adorable and busy girls (ages 1 and 3 months--I know I'm crazy but what is life without a little crazy, right?).
