I am a successful educator through determination, creativity and the belief that all students deserve the best education possible. School should be an active place of learning that includes real-world experiences. More specifically I feel high schools have the responsibility to motivate their students toward the path of self-realization, foster intellectual development, build moral and ethical character and encourage the development of creative expression in a safe environment. The first responsibility of an educator is to know who they are as a teacher, so they can better serve the students in achieving the goals above. As a teacher, I hope to help students find their own voice and use it, to advocate a sense of capability in the students. I intend to be a fair, open-minded and reflective teacher, so as to achieve a level of professionalism that is becoming of an educator. I value life long learning and will exemplify this to my students through my own passion and continuous education in the field of German language and culture. All curriculums must be based on engaging and motivating content that is aligned to state standards. I believe that curriculum should include concepts of diversity, since the students of today are growing up in a world that is evolving into a global culture. Students learn best when they can be taught in their preferred style of learning. I feel it is not only important to diversify instruction methods, but also give students a sense of stability in the classroom and time to learn the curriculum and it’s patterns. Learning environments must be first and foremost positive, colorful, interactive and engaging. The classroom should be an environment in which the students can visit different stations that enhance their language acquisition and and a place to see their achievements on the walls, so as to promote the individuality and success of the students. Just like the school, a classroom must be a place where a student feels safe in speaking their mind. To advocate education the classroom should also include many different resources that are provided by the teacher, the community and the school. The empowerment of the student is through the accomplishment of learning. School is a great setting in which to encourage students to learn from any mistakes they make, therefore I feel the responsibility of the student is to take part in this process by being inquisitive and explorative. Students should always be given the chance to take such responsibilities for their learning. In the pursuit of all education students must always respect themselves, other students, the teacher and the learning environment. This philosophy of teaching is something I take so seriously that it is posted it on the walls in my classroom. I review my beliefs with my students many times throughout the years so as to make my expectations clear and require them to follow rules that align with my visible vision statement and the high school’s code of conduct.
