Brita Sola studied abroad for a year in Spain while completing her undergrad work and fell in love with the language and the culture. Shortly after she was selected to complete an intensive bilingual teaching program in and around Querétaro, Mexico where she taught the local children in the public, private and rural schools. After this life changing experience she relocated to Spain because of the sangria and “El amor de su vida” that were there. She worked at a private elementary school and then she and her Spanish husband moved to California to start a family. Brita worked at a dual immersion Spanish/English school as a 2nd and 3rd grade teacher before she was “promoted” to high school Spanish teacher where she has enjoyed teaching Novice Spanish, Spanish for Spanish speakers and Spanish AP/IBHL. Brita, “El amor de su vida” and their two young children, enjoy spending summers in the south of Spain and having dance parties together.

Angie Martín, born, raised and homeschooled in Cuba, before it became fashionable, holds degrees in English and Spanish and is a forever student of Italian. She has taught for many, many years but is continually awed by getting to play teacher. She reflects on her practice excessively and considers herself fortunate to still truly delight in the joys of teaching: collaborating, planning, creating, breaking down concepts, sharing, interacting, managing, presenting, revisiting, scaffolding, regrouping and laughing . . . always laughing! Angie was recognized, relatively early in her career, with Disney’s American Teacher Award honoring teachers who inspire the joy of learning in America’s public and private schools. She marvels at the strides made in the classroom since then, and is delighted to have continued to be curious, intrepid and very, very flexible and open-minded when facing new educational trends.
