Throughout my student teaching and my education, I’ve learned to develop appropriate teaching strategies and assessment methods to accomodate for the wide range of specific students’ needs. As a teacher, I try to motivate students in discovering what truly inspires them. I try to incorporate a variety of models of instruction that challenge students. I prioritize inquiry-based learning, technology, problem-based learning, and socratic seminars about real world applications to help students build on their skills, make progress and communicate their findings. I believe that teaching youth with intellectually stimulating activities and using interactive methods supports students' understanding of important principles of government and history. I aim to provide an engaging learning environment that encourages students to develop their critical thinking abilities, allowing for higher comprehension. This gives them the ability to analyze sources and form their own informed beliefs, applying their academic learning to real-life experiences. I believe understanding history and social studies creates fundamental building blocks for individuals to be active participants in society. As students engage in meaningful activities that advance their understanding of concepts, events, and perspectives that shape social studies discussions, students learn to apply these principles to complex situations and contexts. By understanding why and how events happened (and especially how it relates to them personally) students gain a holistic perspective of history and society that helps them become well-rounded individuals. This builds a framework of readiness for college, career, and civic life.

I’ve known for a long time that I wanted to be a teacher and make a difference with the youth. I know I have a talent for working with young people, and know that a great teacher can make a lasting impact on a young mind.
