TEACHING EXPERIENCE

It’s hard to believe, but I’ve been teaching for 28 years! My classroom experience has ranged from grades 3-12 in a variety of settings. I had the pleasure of teaching special education for 17 years before making the move to general education. I currently teach middle school language arts.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My philosophy of teaching is simple- start where students are and build them up with the right interventions at the right time. I enjoy incorporating strategies and techniques such as the Gradual Release of Responsibility (I Do-We Do-You Do), aspects of Whole Brain Teaching, and structures for cooperative learning.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I achieved National Board Certification in 2001 as an Early Childhood through Young Adult Exceptional Needs Specialist. I also achieved Master Teacher status in the State of Ohio in 2009. In addition, I had the honor of receiving the Cooperating Teacher of the Year award in 2011 from the Ohio Association of Teacher Educators for my work with student teachers.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I’m licensed to teach middle childhood language arts (4-9), reading (P-12), and special education (K-12). I have an M.S. in Education in Literacy and also in Curriculum and Instruction.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I’m a pet mom, an avid reader of fantasy and science fiction, and a MASSIVE book hoarder. I currently reside in Ohio, but I’ve also lived in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. In my free time, I enjoy making digital and printable resources for intermediate and middle school language arts. I opened my TpT store in February of 2020 with a few resources that I had made for myself and my colleagues. A fellow teacher suggested that I open a store, so I did! I had no idea at the time how much work it would be or how much I would love doing it. My favorite part of it all is connecting with fellow teachers! __________________________________________________________________________ Thank you to Fruits of Perseverance for the file cabinet clip art in my logo: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Fruits-Of-Perseverance
